Fire Science
The Fire Science Program at Crowder College prepares students for a career in fire fighting. This program provides qualified fire fighters for local communities. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for part-time or full-time fire fighters to upgrade their job skills.
The courses in this program allow students to pursue a certificate or associate degree in Fire Science. The program includes courses in basic fire fighter tactics, fire department management, fire investigations and hazardous materials response.
Crowder College offers two degree paths: A 30-hour certificate degree and an Associate of Arts degree with emphasis in Fire Science. For the certificate degree, students must complete 30 hours of course work in fire science. In the Associate of Arts degree program, students must complete 18 hours of fire science courses and 42 hours of general education requirements.
The Fire Science courses follow state guidelines and the instruction includes hands-on exercises and case studies. These courses are taught by qualified fire fighter instructors who have had many years experience in the field.
